I am at the 2012 HIMSS conference and this year, I noticed a greater emphasis around mobile health. HIMSS created mHIMSS and also recently acquired the mHealth Summit.

This morning, the session on “Leveraging Physicians’ Smartphone Usage in HIT” was a packed room and an excellent session around some practical nuts and bolts around the use of mobile devices in the hospital setting.

Here are a few tips that were shared today:

It is good to start with the residents. The attendings will want to keep up with the residents as well.
Billing can become much more effective and efficient.
To maximize security, store as little data as possible in mobile devices.
Use the mobile device as a token to improve security.
Limit access to Wi-Fi only. No 3G or 4G access.
If the device is lost, remove access from the server immediately.

They also gave a nice demo using their iPhone app for the UHS.

They showed the patient list, the problem list, their connection with the NextGen EHR. They found ways to tap into existing databases and did not expect their vendors to provide any customization. They showed how easy it is to view the medication administration record. Surgeons love seeing the ins and outs. They can access outpatient office notes, discharge summaries, radiology and labs, and more.

The most useful application is around patient hand-offs. This is reducing errors and improving communication among physicians. They are using the mobile signout notes and communicating important points about patients both verbally and in writing.

Session title:

Got Smartphones? Leveraging Physicians’ Smartphone Usage in HIT

United Health Services (UHS) Hospitals designed and implemented a handheld solution for clinician use. Installing this system on clinician-owned mobile devices has increased physician acceptance of EHR while minimizing computer requirements.

A passport is that official document that identifies you as a citizen of a particular country. It allows you to travel to foreign countries and acts as a pass for getting into a country or exiting from it. This is why it is a serious matter if you encounter a stolen passport.

Lost At Home

Perhaps you have planned an extensive trip abroad and as you are packing you realize your passport is nowhere to be found. This is devastating. Search your house and all previous luggage, however, if you suspect your passport may have been stolen, then you must report it. By reporting it to the proper officials you can red flag it if it’s used, this way no one else can use your documents. This is a very important step in the process of replacing a stolen passport.

Stolen Abroad

If this document is stolen while you are in a foreign country it is very dangerous. The passport allows you entry back into your own country; it also acts as traveling papers to verify that you have permission to be in the country. If you are caught without proper documentation in certain countries you can be arrested and held until the situation is remedied. This is why if you suspect your passport has been stolen you alert officials right away. This will stop anyone from using your passport and will allow you to go about the process of getting a replacement for your stolen passport.

Stay Calm

Whether in your home country or abroad it is important to stay calm. You must be able to effectively communicate with the authorities to report the theft. You also will be required to fill out documentation which must be completed properly. A clear head is the only way to assure a proper report as well as the proper completion of replacement documentation.

Report It

You can report it missing by phone or by filling out a special form at an agency or at the government offices. You can find the contacts online to report your missing item. Should you find a passport of someone else, you can also ensure that they get it back by mailing it to any Passport Agency.

It’s Cancelled

The authorities can then try to help you track it down. However, you should consider the possibility that it may never turn up. Once you have reported it as stolen, it is invalidated and you cannot use it for travel. You have to apply for another one. Then it is time for a pasport renewal .

Inco is alone. His parents are dead, and so is his universe. He’s the last living human, and a survivor of a horrible, no-good, very bad event that turned his universe’s suns to char. He doesn’t brood, which is a good thing since no-one likes a crybaby, but I really feel for the guy: he lives among broken toys and dwells in total darkness. When Incoboto opens, you’ll see him peering into an especially black space with his telescope, perhaps searching for answers.

He finds one in a curiously sentient, but obviously mad sun named Helios. Helios is babyish and overexcitable. He giggles like an infant and devours like one, too. But he is also odd and knowing in the way that he floats about pointing to the things he can fix if, and just if, Inco can find more fuel for him.

They’re as perfect of a fit as Inco is going to find considering everyone is dead and all, so the two strike up a friendship set off across the universe. Helios wants stars, while Inco just wants to find someone. Conveniently, when Helios gobbles a star, he gains enough power to turn on the world’s contraptions.

This is the premise of Dene Carter’s imaginative 2D side-scroller Incoboto, a game that we’ve had our hands all over for the last week or so. Carter is an ex-Lionhead Studios veteran, and you can see that studio’s creative spirit all over it. It’s the end result of hundreds of different ideas that have been mashed together into an imaginative romp that has things to say about death, living, corporate control, adventure game design, exploration, and many other things.

Breaking it down mechanically into a snappy phrase isn’t easy. In our audio interview this week, Dene said he gave up trying to pitch the game. Incoboto is too odd, too much its own game.

“I kind of gave up doing all of that,” Dene told us. “While you’re developing a game, of course, what you’re trying to do the whole time is try to emphasize the fundamental thing that makes your game, your game, and not a game. It’s so easy to describe your game as other games, with bits of this and bits of that or whatever else, as soon as you start doing that it’s very easy to get distracted.”

“After literally a year doing that and just kind of going ‘god, this is ridiculous, this is turning to Nethack, this is turning to god-knows-what-else. How the hell did we get here?’ And my wife literally beating on my ass for about three weeks, I just said you know what, this is a strange, strange game and I will just make sure everything that I do with this game from now on reflects that.”

The core components of the game’s overall structure and design seemingly owes a lot to the small creative team at Nintendo behind the original Super Mario Galaxy. Incoboto is the end result of what would happen if that team squashed that experience into 2D, and in the process of torturing, manipulating, and cleansing it, injected new features and the bent, almost dreamlike signature whimsy of a Lionhead production.

I don’t want to sell this short; Incoboto clearly is its own title. But its core action revolves around loosely adapted concepts and mechanics popularized by Galaxy. It plays around with physics a lot, and you’ll find yourself pulling a ton of levers and scaling a lot of oddities in a quest to collect stars across a series of interconnected globes that you can travel to and from freely.

If you’re still lost, take a gander at this trailer. This should put you in the right head space. Note the almost total lack of UI:

The game’s camera acts as a rod, slowly spinning the world as you move around it. One of the coolest elements of Incoboto is its one-touch controls. To run, press a finger in a direction. To jump, press that finger down again. It’s really simple, and it works. One of its other cool elements? The Corporation. In the game, you’ll discover that everything in Inco’s world has been created by an overly-observent mega-company that seemed to exist simply to create the most inane things ever invented, and then post PR-friendly signs about them everywhere.

At its heart, Incoboto is a puzzle game. Collecting stars allows Helios to open brand new passageways to other worlds. However, most of these stars are tucked out of reach, or require some fanciful solutions to get to.

You’ll run across puzzles that will have you lining up rods to complete an electrical circuit. In one specific case, we rotated a physics-based puzzle box with a ball on the opposite end of where it needed to be. Sometimes, you’ll be smacking switches with rocks or explosives. Other times, you’ll be scaling a world in a precise way to reach a star.

The puzzle design is lightly schizophrenic; there’s a lot of ideas floating around in the game, and you’ll see a lot of different puzzles as a result. The kickback is that you’ll hit a lot video game logic walls. New puzzles just don’t jive with the old. I got stuck within the first hour, and then again in the second, and then big-time during the third.

Seriously, Dene says this is basically the point: he wants you to get stuck or feel funny, and then to have to probe your friends for answers. He views this as a mechanic in an age where everyone wants to hold your hand. How indie.

As you progress, you’ll find tools and other objects that expand what you can do while digging for stars. Early, you find a glove that allows you to throw rocks at springy targets. The first item gives you the power to find hidden buttons and switches with a gentle pinch and zoom motion.

My time with Incoboto has been short, and I got stuck a lot. It’s a discouraging kind of feeling, so I’m not quite sure what that says about me or how I’m clicking with some of the fundamental design. It’s nice to have an actual challenge, I guess, but I don’t want the difficulty to keep me from seeing everything Dene has created. This is a beautiful, beautiful world with music that blends into the atmosphere as smoothly as a smooth thing.

I’m eager to see more in the final version, which by the way, should appear at some point this March on iPad. If you’d like to hear Dene talk about his game, consider checking out our most recent podcast. If you’d like to see more of the game, there is a really, really thriving discussion in our message board right now.

Nikon released the brand spanking new Nikon D800 finally, as the Nikon D700 was getting a tad long in the tooth and as my Nikon D300 is starting to feel slow, I am beginning to wonder: what’s my next digital SLR going to look like?

Buy the Nikon D800

This new Nikon D800 and it’s sister – the Nikon D800e looks to be quite the digital camera for 2012 and even though it’s a lot of money for some, (yours truly included) if you’re in the market for the latest and greatest digital camera technology in 2012 when it comes to DSLR’s this looks to be the ticket.

Nikon D800 Features

I’ll get around to all the technical specs in a moment, but this is the newest camera you can buy from Nikon today ( I never did like Canon, so it’s not really in the works) and yes, it will cost you a pretty penny you get a brand new Nikon D800 to use and all the features to go along with it too. If you are an early adopter you get a great deal on a D800 as the camera will last you the entire lifetime from release date until when you upgrade.

Nikon D800 Specifications and Features

The sensor, at 36.3 megapixels simply blows the other cameras out of the water. That’s 3x the resolution of my Nikon D300 I am currently shooting with.

In 2012, full HD video shooting is possible with even the cheapest of digital cameras, but when combined with the high resolution, you’re sure to get some great videos. I plan to start shooting more when the weather warms up and I would love to add video and the flexibility of DSLR lenses to my camera bag of tricks. To be completely honest all the HD video specs of this brand new camera overwhelm me. I started shooting with film in a darkroom. HD video is a brave new world.

The 51 point autofocus is the same as the Nikon D700 and D300 so this is underwhelming to me. I am sure the autofocus is going to be faster than a 3 year and almost five year old camera is, but I have never had any problems with autofocus shooting on my Nikon D300.

The LCD display is self dimming and .2 inches bigger. I don’t feel that this is much of an upgrade over either the Nikon D700 or Nikon D300 with their 3 inch LCD displays. You may get some better battery life out of the Nikon D800 because the screen won’t take as much juice when compared to the full on Nikon D700, but I doubt it makes much difference in real world use.

The built in HDR, while looks cool and for some offers real neat images, I prefer to shoot more natural looking scenes. Cool, but I wouln’t pay the money for it personally.

Due primarily to budget constraints, and the fact that photography is a hobby for me at most this looks like the best deal on a digital SLR from Nikon right now, but I had better not wait to buy a Nikon D700 as it won’t be long before you can’t buy a Nikon D700. If you’re looking for a brand new Nikon D700, don’t wait too long before they’re all gone.

Speaking of used, this is a possibility to those that are patient and can wait for the perfect used Nikon D700 to pop up. I have seen used Nikon D700′s go for as little as 00, which is half the price of the Nikon D800, and assuming a current street price of about 0.00 for the Nikon D300 the total cost to upgrade to FX from DX, which is my main requirement would cost me about 0.00 in total, about 1/4 the cost of brand new Nikon D800.

Nikon D700 Specifications

The 12.1 megapixels is the exact same as I have with the Nikon D300 – I would gain no megapixels here with this upgrade. To get more resolution I’ll have to buy the Nikon D800.

The low light shooting range goes to ISO 6400, which is just fine for me as I prefer to shoot when there’s light to see, and except from the FX shooting format, that’s the big difference between the Nikon D700 and the Nikon D300.

Keep the Nikon D300 and live with the DX format.

This probably makes the most sense fiscally, as I have no funds for a camera upgrade right now anyway. I may be tempted to trade my Nikon D300 and 18-200 for the Nikon D700, but I wonder if this makes the most sense? I really miss the fact that I can’t shoot wide and fast, as the only wide lens I have is the Nikon 18-200mm and it’s slow at f/3.5 I’d love a 2.8, which I have, but with the DX format, my 24mm lens turns into about 25mm. I miss shooting wide with digital.

Shoot Film

Buy an old film camera instead. You can buy a whole lot of film and processing for 3 grand – the cost of the new Nikon D800 and instead pick up a used Nikon F5 for about 0 to shoot wide with. Photography is just a hobby, and so yes it’s a bit more hassle to shoot film but I think that you become a better shooter if you only have 36 chances for the shot. Digital is great for so many things and my Nikon D300 is a joy to use.

Buy a fast wide DX lens.

Or, a cheaper zoom like a 10-24mm DX lens under 0 to test the waters of wide angle shooting. But, this is just a kludge because if I can I would like to get away from shooting DX and go with FX if I can swing the upgrade cost to the thousand dollar range. I doubt I could justify any more money for a hobby.

Sell all the FX lenses and go with zoom

I started shooting in the 1980′s so I am kindof partial to shooting with fixed lenses, but one option would be to keep the Nikon D300 and let the 18-200 go and use the proceeds towards two fast zoom lenses. One for the wide shooting, and one lens for telephoto shooting.

For now, I am going to stick with my Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm zoom lens as this stuff is already bought and paid for. If I could swing a deal on a Nikon D700, I might be tempted to upgrade as the FX format is tempting for wide shooting, and just for fun I may pick up a Nikon F5 or even a F4 if I could find one just to shoot film as it’s been years since I shot film and the cost for cameras that shoot film is negligible.

I would love to buy a Nikon D800 and I envy those of you that can do this without paying attention to cost, but I need to feed my family before I buy another digital camera.

A pass port is completely necessarily if you’re planning a trip outside of the country. The purpose of this trip won’t matter. You may be traveling for business internationally, going on an exotic getaway, or studying in a different country for a semester. Whatever the case may be, you’ll need the document to get into any other country. To think ahead by applying ahead of time is a smart idea.

Benefits

The benefits to having this document are vast. Without one, there are many places in the world that you will not be able to travel to. This is particularly true in the world today. In the past, without passports you could enter countries such as Canada. Presently, however, this is not possible. Any type of international travel requires that you carry this with you.

Easy To Obtain

Fortunately, it isn’t very hard to obtain passports. Most likely, you will have the ability to put you application in locally. Things get a little tricky if your date of travel is coming up sooner. If you’re planning your international travel for less than two weeks from now, you’ll need to schedule an appointment at one of the regional passport agencies. Even if you’re outside the country you can obtain one–you’ll just need to contact the embassy or consulate.

Valuable Document

You might think that it is not needed to always have one. The truth is, it’s recommended that people with family traveling or living abroad, who have a job that may necessitate international travel, or who are thinking about a vacation abroad always make sure their passports remain valid. If you already have a valid document, it will save you so much time and money in case there is an emergency in the family, an unexpected business trip, or in the lucky event you happen upon a fantastic airline deal.

Foreign Country Requirements

Beyond this, some countries require a document valid for at least another six months past the dates of travel plans. It is therefore recommended that you go about renewing yours approximately nine months prior to the expiration date. By doing this, you can avoid any unexpected problems by already being prepared.

Valid Period

Your document will be valid for ten years in the event that it was issued when you were over 16. If it was issued when you were 15 years old or younger, it will be valid for five years. As a result, you won’t need to renew yours often if you make sure to keep it on track.

Emergency Situations

If there is an emergency, there are still solutions available to you. If you do not have a valid document and a life or death emergency involving death or serious illness or injury occurs to someone in your immediate family in a country that requires a child pass port, you can appear in person at a passport agency for emergency service. You may have to provide documentation about the emergency.

If you are concerned with the structural integrity of your building you will need to look into finding a good roofing consultant at some point. Picking a contractor is very substantial part of this process. If a roof is repaired inadequately it can lead to many problems and even more out of pocket expenses. The quality of roof on a building is very important to the integrity of the entire structure. Fortunately, there is a resource building owners can seek to help assist on a roofing contractors Miami fl project – an independent roofing consultant.

Consultants.

It is important to recognize how roof consultants differ from architects and engineers. Roofing consultants have specialized knowledge and insight of roofing issues that architects and engineers may not have. Furthermore, because they do not have any relationships with roof manufacturers, good roofing consultants are impartial, third-party resources. Moreover, reputable roofing consultants will have a comprehensive understanding of many different types of roofing systems.

Designs For Roofs.

Commercial roofing consultants can conceptualize custom roofing designs and specifications for your building. Compared to the cost of the roof, this design costs a relatively small amount, but a good roof design can have a serious impact on the overall durability of the roofing system. Roofing consultants do a lot more than design roofing systems, however. One critical task a consultant performs is determining if a roof needs to be replaced or can be saved through repairs.

Quality Assurance.

Another key service presented by commercial roofing consultants is quality control during the installation of the roof. The company will have someone onsite to oversee the roof during every phase of the installation to make certain all the necessary specifications are being met. Once the work is finalized, the roofing consultant can draw up a roof maintenance program and do annual inspections to make sure it stays in good working order.

Roof Management.

Many roofing consultancy firms offer what’s called a roof asset management programs. These proprietary programs, which are usually computer based, can help building owners manage all the information of their roofing assets. Owners can track when maintenance is scheduled and performed, maintain roofing files, keep file photos of the roof, and monitor possible roofing improvements. Since a roof is a rather large expenditure it is wise to make sure the asset is being properly managed.

Since there are not any limitations on who can call themselves roofing consultants, owners should be watchful when they select a commercial roofing Miami company. Owners should do their homework about the company’s previous work and why you should hire them. Customer references should be focal points when selecting a roofing company as well. Find examples of their previous projects and how they are being maintained. Another thing to think about is whether the consultant belongs to the Roofing Consultants Institute (RCI). This group is an international, non-profit organization in North Carolina that does quality checks on all commercial roofing companies. With a quality roofing consultant by your side you will ensure your roofing miami fl project goes smoothly from beginning to end.

will ensure your Miami roofing project goes smoothly from beginning to end| Having a quality roofing consultant by your side will help your Miami roofing project go smoothly from beginning to end| Working with a quality roofing consultant by your side will give your Miami roofing project a great advantage}.

When I unlocked a moustache and created Ron Swanson Pizza Bagel (Ron to his friends), I fell a little bit in love with Pizza Vs. Skeletons [.99 / Lite]. I mean, how many games let you play – and customize – a 10 foot tall pizza that’s out to crush every skeleton it finds? And it’s not all skeleton crushing, oh no. We’ve also got Pizza Rescues Trapped Puppies, Pizza Balances on Rolling Skulls and a hefty handful of other games in here, taking full advantage of everything a giant pizza can do.

The common thread is the pizza (or tire, or moon, or…), and its three capabilities: rolling, jumping, and pounding the ground. You roll by tilting your device, jump by tapping the screen once and hit the deck by tapping again. Any of those moves can crush skeletons, which simply can’t stand up to the weight of a giant pizza. If you’re worried about the tilt controls, give the free version a try. I can tell you they’re better than most, easily calibrated, and fit perfectly with the gameplay, but try for yourself to be sure.

Now obviously this game gets a little crazy, right? At first it seems that all you do is roll back and forth, crushing waves of skeletons and avoiding their spears by jumping sometimes. Of course that’s not all; that wouldn’t be nearly strange enough. There are traditional platforming sections where you roll your pizza to ski or rescue puppies (you crush their cages, see, and then they stick to your cheesy surface while you take them to safety). Among other oddities, we also get into castle crushing levels, levels where you bounce of brains for maximum board-breaking impact, and my personal favorite, a Feeding Frenzyesque survival-of-the-fittest sim that takes place under the sea. It could come off as too wacky, but I played most of the game with a stupid grin on my face.

There is one thing I really don’t dig about Pizza Vs. Skeletons. There are 100 levels, which is rad, but that means you’ll be playing each game type quite a few times. They don’t all hold up to this repetition. With pizza-skiing, for instance, you have to deal with tiny platforms and explosions and things as you get to higher levels, but all of them pretty much look and feel the same. They just get longer, and longer, and eventually stop being all that novel.

But you’ve gotta remember that you’re doing these things as a giant pizza, and that your fellow skiiers are skeletons wearing Santa hats. That absurdity goes a long way. That time when I was on the moon, knocking skeleton cherubs out of the sky? Still fun, even though I did something similar a few times already.

If you like messing around with customization, Pizza Vs. Skeletons is a dream. You pick up coins while you play, and you can use that money to unlock new bases, faces, hats and toppings. Not that into pizza? You can play a rolling jellyfish with a Stetson, gems for eyes and a beak. Why shouldn’t you, aside from the boundaries of good taste? Oh, and before you ask, no, you can’t buy extra currency with real cash. In this game, you’ve gotta earn your rewards, or at least win ‘em on the Wheel of Pizza that pops up after every level.

You’re free to earn your cash and play the game pretty much any way you want, skipping any levels that aren’t to your taste. You only need to earn 165 stars out of a possible 300 to open up all the levels across 10 chapters. It’s your usual three star, three goals system, but you can’t earn them individually. So if a level’s goals call for you to beat a timer, collect a certain number of coins and not get hit, you’ve gotta do that all in one go. But if you don’t want to grind, settle for two—it’ll still get you comfortably to the end.

In other words, don’t let boredom get to you. It’s possible to grind the fun right out of this game, but if you stick to playing modes you enjoy and challenge yourself with three stars when you want to, there’s no reason this skeleton-crushing simulator should lose its charm. For a little extra spice, try finding (and wearing) the ten secret ingredients. They’re hidden in ten unnamed levels, but you might be able to join forces in our forums to hunt them down.

If you’re on iOS 5, and you can live with music that can’t be disabled (it’s good music, at least), give this one your time. Riverman Media has infused Pizza Vs. Skeletons with a ton of humor, and it goes well with a side of creepy-cool art. Whether you’re sumo-fighting for supremacy or squashing skeletal spikies, it’s going to look good and feel great. It sounds like the developer has lots of plans for the future, so we’ll be looking forward to plenty more things to crush and new ways to crush them.

There are many different methods a person can use to lose weight while at the same time gain muscle mass. There are a multitude of resources available to individuals who want to become healthier by losing weight. Working out, eating right and getting the right amount of sleep are all critical. However, there are different plans available to people to help accelerate this process. Choosing one of these routines to work for you can be a difficult task. There are a many different things to consider when you are choosing a regime for your personal health goals. Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle is a simple program you can buy to help you achieve your weight loss and muscle gaining goals.

Finding The Right Balance

Trying to lose weight while gaining muscle can be a very frustrating task for many individuals. Most people who are trying to accomplish this fail to recognize the multitude of factors that are included in both losing weight while healthily gaining muscle. This can cause many individuals to give up on their goals before the right the right balance of exercise and diet is reached. Following one of the tried and true methods of weight loss can help a person become successful in this endeavor.

No Easy Fix

There are plenty of magazines and supplements that claim to cause rapid weight loss while accelerating muscle growth on the market. However, the simple fact remains there is no easy, quick way to accomplish these things if you are not taking the proper steps. Eating the right amount of calories is a component that is largely ignored by those seeking to drop a few pounds while simultaneously building muscle mass. Also, progressing in your workout routine’s intensity is something that is not commonly done. If you carefully adhere to these methods you will have a much better chance of becoming successful in fulfilling your goals.

Fuel For Your Body

Once you find a healthy balance between your diet and exercises your body will be more ready to lose weight and gain muscle. It is crucial that your body get quality energy for your workouts so that you are maximizing your body’s potential to gain muscle. Maintaining the right intake of calories is another component that is very important for putting on muscle. Forgetting this will make it very difficult for you to put on more muscle mass. It is also a good idea that when you work out you are lifting the heaviest weights you can while still maintaining correct posture and control.

Workout Routine

You can calculate how many calories you should be consuming every day by multiplying your body weight by twenty. If you fail to do this it is almost impossible for you to sustain muscle growth. Finding the right balance of protein, fat intake and carbohydrates is also a very important part of any weight loss program. When you work out at the gym it is imperative your routine be intense and challenging on your muscles. This will accelerate your metabolism so you can lose fat while at the same time building muscle fibers.

It is necessary to cultivate a workout routine that does not stagnate as it goes on. Your routine must continue to get more difficult as you progress through your program. Another way to counteract the fat you will naturally put on from your increased calorie intake is to integrate cardiovascular exercises into your workout. It is easy to become discouraged by the process of losing weight while trying to gain mass, however, obeying these principles will give you a simple plan to help overcome this. Another worthwhile program to look at for weight loss is called Fat Burning Furnace.
